Chassis A/C - john duke - 08-21-2005 09:02 Does any one happen to know where the T-stat switch for the chassis A/C on a 1991 SP36 is located. My system would love to work but the compressor will not kick in unless jumped. Then it works,so i supect the T-Stat switch fails to tell the compressor "ITS HOT MAN, START COOLING....". But just a thought. If your system has a low pressure switch?? That could be the problem too. There will be a copper tube that leads to it. If it's the pressure switch, that's usually under the hood and has a 2 wire switch to it. You can unplug the switch and put a jumper wire connecting the 2 connectors together. Then the compressor should come on. It will look like an oil pressure sending unit screwed into the AC line with 2 wires coming off it. Hope this helps. There is also a compressor switch on the heat/AC control panel. Once I found those two, it works great. Does anyone know what kind of circuit breakers or fuses are in the compressor control path? a schematic would be very useful. I have a decent set of tools with me so any suggestions for diagnosing are greatly appreciated. At the compressor, you should find a wire that goes to the clutch. Mine had a connector that I could unplug, If it is a butt connector, just cut the wire. Two checks. First; with the key in the on position and the A/C controls set for cooling, check the wire end that comes from the harness for 12 volts. If you are not getting 12 volts, you probably have a blown fuse or other similar problem. Second; using an ohm meter, check the wire going to the clutch for continuity. The clutch is internally grounded so you should get a very low resistance reading. If it shows infinite resistance, the clutch coil is open and needs to be replaced. A confirming test is to use a jumper wire and connect 12 volts to the wire to the clutch. If the clutch is ok, it will pull in. That will give you a starting point. I have a load center at the rear of the bus, one above the pilot area, and one at the copilot's footwell. There's also a fuse/relay box on the outside of the bus below the pilot's side window.
