Blair,

What do you recommend for a top quality color back up camera and what
lens works best? I have a lens that is great up close but cannot see
the ants (trucks) two or three car lengths back.

Tom,
My new camera and lens should be here Tuesday. The camera is a
#15-CC25NV, Blair's recommendation. The Fuji lens is a 2.7 - 13.5mm
#YV5X2.7R4B-SA2 or 2L You can find both by searching the net. Try
http://www.digitalssinc.com. That's where I got mine...$111.00 & $69.00. They
were the cheapest and could deliver.

I'll test the camera/lens when they arrive and let you, Blair, others know.

I hope to settle on an LCD this week. Then the fun begins.

Is this a judgement call or is it based on facts?
What's your background that you feel that you can make a blanket statement on
the technical aspects of a surveillance camera? Or do you just watch a lot
of TV?

Under certain conditions ie. low light, real bad lighting
I would have agree with Nelson You will in some situations have to
change to Black and white mode unless there is sufficient ambiant
lighting or artifical lighting is supplied Unless you spend an extreme
amount of money on a colour camera
and yes I do watch a lot of TV hehehe

Low light conditions make it hard on any color camera, however, you can get
some real good
color cameras that will operate in very low conditions if you're willing to
put out the money...
Now, the way most good color cameras get around this is to automatically
switch to B/W mode
when it gets dim out there. The color camera that I use is not expensive
and will show color
just from the red stop and running lights on our coach. Not great color,
but color...when it gets
darker or I shut off the lights, it transforms to straight B/W and the
picture is sharp and highly
defined......B

Hi Tom,

FWIW, I took Blair's advice and bought a COP 15-CC35NV Day & Night Hi
res color camera (stock number 15-CC35NV) from cctvworks dot com. I
paired it with a Professional 2.8mm-12mm DC Auto Iris Lens (stock
number LEN02812A) from the same vendor. Pricing for whole package &
shipping was around $200- they gave me extra BNC connector for coach
connection and a 12V power supply for tuning the camera prior to
installation. I highly recommend them. Installed on my PT40 and can
see toad, side lanes and traffic for about 300 yards back.
