Hi group,
I just installed Orr & Orr's 80 lb each gas lifts and it didn't make
any difference. Geeze...how heavy is this rear hatch?
Before I blow another $25 bucks, can anybody tell me how heavy the
lifts need to be 100 lbs? 150 lbs? each?

Hi Bob,
How did you compress the gas lifts to install them?
I have a broken end on one lift in the right forward bay and I'm having a time
trying to compress it to remove it.
I've been told that ratchet straps will work but it doesn't feel right. Doesn't
look safe either.
Got any insight here. It would be a great help.

The gas shocks will hold the tail gate open but for safety

I'm pretty sure I replaced mine with 150 lbs. Seems like that is what Bennie

Hi Bob,
We also had to replace our gas lifts for the rear deck of our 89 PT 40.
I called Earl at BB and he sent me replacements that work perfectly. Expensive,
but now I don't have to use Vice Grips to keep the Very Heavy rear deck.
Instillation was a bit of a b****h, had to prop up the deck with a 2x4 while I
RnR the old units. I have no idea of the weight rating, but I know the new ones
are identical to the originals. Worth every cent. We also replaced the lifts in
the battery bay and all the lifts in our interior living room compartments.

Hi Kurt,
The 80# lifts only needed to be compressed about 2 inches. Pushed
hard down on the tube end and was able to push it down. Remarked to
wife, if I have to get the 150#ers, I would have a bitch of a time
trying to compress them.
The way I have done bigger ones on my truck was to get small pieces
of wood, hold them (with help from another set of hands)on the ball
at each end, then use a ratchet strap to compress. Not a problem.
Probably not the safest way to do it, but I can't think of another
way to do them.
