300 Amp delco remy alternator - mbulriss - 04-13-2008 04:20 Fred, Really good stuff! Do you have information on the part numbers for the seal kit? I took the liberty of adding your post as a File for future reference, in case you get follow-up inquiries. Thanks, Mike Bulriss 1991 WB40 "Texas Minivan" San Antonio, TX --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Fred Hulse" > > Morning David > To remove the belt, there is a idler pulley in the center of the engine with an adjustment bolt (about 8 inches long) above at an angle.Loosen this bolt about two inches allowing the pulley to move away from the belt and you can remove the belt. > The alternator pulley is removed with a 33mm socket.(1 3/8 may be close) A 1/2 air gun with 100 psi will get it off, but don't "rattle on it" for much longer than 10 seconds at a time. > Once the nut is off the pulley will slip off easily as it is a splined armature shaft. You will now see the seal plate held on with 6 bolts, remove the bolts and the seal plate will come off revealing the front bearing. Now remove the seal collar still on the shaft and an o ring.Scrape the seal plate gasket off the alternator housing.Change the seal on the plate being careful to press the seal in properly,if the seal surface is dry apply a thin coat of grease an the lip.Reassemble the oring ,seal collar and seal plate and pulley, washer and nut, then the belt and re-adjust with the idler pulley with the long adjusting bolt and you have now saved a lot of time and money. > > Also I have a seal, gasket and o-ring kit available if you need it. > Fred & Jeanne Hulse > Morristown,Arizona > 1997 Wanderlodge WB41 > 300 Amp delco remy alternator - David Brady - 04-13-2008 06:33 Thanks Fred, That's great info; you saved me a bunch of bucks. Thanks for the offer on the seal kit, but I'm going to get a few more parts from Elreg; besides, you may want to keep that kit as a backup. Mike, Elreg has parts. It appears that the seal is part number 402-1407 at: http://www.elreg.com/category/83.aspx David Brady '02 LXi, NC Fred Hulse wrote:

I have Delco Remy part numbers at the house, but we are out in the coach for a few days, but I will get the numbers when I get home thursday.
I got my pieces from a rebuilder in Phoenix through the local NAPA store, but he used Delco numbers.
Thanks for adding the post to the files.
