Black Hills vacation - Jana Ewart - 06-30-2010 11:04
Hi Ken and Patti!Don't know if you remember us from Stonewall -- we were the newbies on the block and parked next to you. Â We are at Hart Ranch -- wondering if you would like to get together -- how are you enjoying working at the Fish Hatchery? Â We will be here for most of July.

Hi Alvie and Elsie,
Â
One more voice heard from regarding Black Hills vacation.
Â
Patti and I are currently workamping at the D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery in Spearfish, SD. We have been here since mid May and can tell you there is plenty to do see in the area. Within a 100 miles there is Devils Tower, WY, Sturgis, Deadwood, Lead, Rapid City, Rushmore, Custer Park, Crazy Horse Monument, 1880 Steam Train ride. In addition to the museums and other sites there is the incredible Spearfish Canyon which features some of the best trout fishing in the country.
Â
We work 3 days on and 3 days off and still haven't seen everything. Weather is much as you would expect in summer in the upper mid-west. Today and for the next several days we expect 90's then cooler weather this weekend. There are abundant camp grounds including the city park we are in at Spearfish. Full hook-up with water, sewer and 50 amp.    Â
I don't think that you wont be disappointed if you come here. It is the most beautiful part of SD.

Does anyone have any comments good or bad concerning the Black Hills area, Mt Rushmore, etc as a vacation destination? Any suggestions on where to stay, what not to miss? Family is looking at traveling to the area starting August 13th.

Jana, you might have to upgrade to satellite internet. If I was to be back in the boonies, I'd have one of those even if Brenda needs to work a second job~

haven't checked into how portable those are -- Verizon seems to work pretty good every where else. Â We are going to NC and GA for this winter -- maybe after that they will have better service. Â No hurry on decisions (we are retired!)
