A view from our front window - mikebulriss - 12-28-2013 15:12

The first picture is a view from our front window early this morning. The second would have been a Bird of the Week shot on the old forum.
Dry camping in what one travel guide calls a ghost town and the saddest place in Texas - Indianola. Once a major city and seaport, with docks extending out a half mile into the bay, two major hurricanes wiped out the entire place, virtually 100%. Now it is a very quiet place to pull into and enjoy nothing but the solitude. For those interested in a longer version of the history, see: http://www.texasescapes.com/TexasGhostTowns/IndianolaTexas/IndianolaTx.htm

Nice pics. Aren't you worried about salt?

Hi Mike,

Glad you liked the pics. As for salt, I am aware of the problem, but not as concerned as the folks that live along one of the coasts full time. Or the folks that spend a winter on South Padre or Florida. We only get a couple of weeks each year at year end. When we get home, the bus gets a soapy wash and brushing over every inch of exterior and lots and lots of rinsing and under carriage flushing before getting put back in the garage. The pure solitude of Indianola was worth it. On North Padre behind a dune now in a small quiet obscure county park with only 6 other campers. We are trying to hit out of the way spots this year.

Looks like a gorgeous spot. Enjoy and Happy New Year.
