So the trip from San Antonio was going great until just outside of El Paso...passenger side tire blew and we just about rolled the coach over. Not fun. Five hours later the size-appropriate tow truck arrived (another story) and we were hauled to a 24hr tire facility. Apparently these establishments understand that at 2:00 on the morning you are at their mercy, and charge accordingly Sad

Anyway, we made it home, had great conversation, some highly stressful moments and memories to last a lifetime. Being able to make the trip with my favorite uncle/seasoned BB owner made it soooo much nicer.

Now comes the shake-down. A few issues have already arisen, and I'm sure more will follow. I'm SO glad I have the WAGU brain-trust to turn to!!

Wow Ken, that must've been hair raising. Did you stay off the brakes and roll on the throttle till the chassis stabilized? Lucky for you the body work seems to be pretty much untouched. Did they remove the driveshaft or the axles before towing? You now know more about Wanderlodges than many of us! Here's to smooth traveling from here on out! Smile

Wow! If it ever happens hope I can stay level headed enough to negotiate it as you did. Any ideas as to the cause?-road debris-rough road-defective tire? Do you have one of those safety steers-if so was it still hard to hold onto the steering wheel? Glad it didn't roll and all OK!

I can't take credit for the safe outcome - my uncle was driving at the time and did a GREAT job handling a difficult situation. He managed to find enough strength to keep the coach on the road and get it stopped on the shoulder. The tires were too old and should have been replaced. Rolling the dice on getting it home wasn't worth it. It's a good lesson and I'm incredibly grateful it turned out the way it did. Someone was definitely looking out for us!

Hard to do but when a tire blows out on the steer axle, drop your foot to the floor on the accelerator. the castor of the axle will send the tire straight so you can gain control. here is a video on the method
