8v92 exhaust - Bruce Johnson - 07-28-2005 00:44 Looking for a replacement drivers side exhaust manifold for my 91' 8v92. One of the ears on the end is cracked off. Also I need to know the correct tourqe for the nuts upon reassembly. Any help welcome - Bruce 8v92 exhaust - Mike McMahan - 07-28-2005 01:25 Bruce, If you will check the archives I had the same problem and received a couple of good leads on used manifolds. I think that Gene Marshall sent me the info. There is a tag on your valve cover that has some numbers on it that will help identify the manifold . I stll had the ear that broke off and was able to have it welded for less that $100.00. So far it has been just fine. Any help welcome - > Bruce When I recently replaced both of my manifolds, I found good used ones at Diesel Exchange, Inc., phone # 1 800-343-7355. The main business of these people is rebuilding detroit diesel engines and they are very knowledgeable about parts. You may also check with Scharf & Company, phone number 800 727-4011. I purchased one of my manifolds and a pipe here because the cost was so reasonable. After all was said & done, I purchased both manifolds, one pipe and all gaskets for less than $350.00. When I installed the new manifolds per the specification given to me by Stewart & Stevenson, I torqued the manifold nuts to 35 Ft.Lbs. Also, if you have any rusted exhaust pipes you may want to consider using stainless steel flex pipes that can be purchased for around $15.00 a foot. I had to buy 11 feet to replace all of my exhaust piping from the turbo to the exhaust manifold. I hope this helps and I can be of any assistance let me know---been there and done that.
