5.29 gears - Jon - 08-26-2005 12:25 I just noticed on a label plate above my engine compartment and this is the gear ratio that is in my bird, is this the normal ratio? When the turbos came along the gearing was normally the 4.88 (4.89). There were choices however. The turbo, while more powerful, has a lower max rpm. At 55mph national speed limits, 4.88 was a pretty good match from factory. While the Na, which I believe you have, was likely considered well matched to the 5.29. You never can be sure since people did make changes. Best to check the speedo and tach are accurate.
