Hoodsport Rally, 11 birds, length question, wiper tip - Rose Mary - 10-05-2005 05:33

Mom (84 years young) and I had the pleasure of attending the
Hoodsport get together on the Hood Canal. Lovely spot, great bunch of
folks.
It was the first time either of us had seen the inside of other birds
and it was so interesting to see the changes from 1 year to the next.
There were 11 birds from 1976-1996.
A couple of interesting notes:
On our way the driver side wiper quit and later kept smelling hot
wires (?) even after I turned everything off. Kinda scarey, made sure
I knew where the fire extinguishers were and kept going as we were
nearly there. Even after we were parked and shut off could smell
something hot around the dash area. Finally asked Stew Sanders who
was parked next to us to come see if I was nuts. While he was sitting
in the drivers seat he saw a puff of smoke....Upon opening the front
panel outside he found the wiper motor extremely hot....Stew, Allen
Powell and Bob Griesel took a look and unplugged the motor. The next
day they switched the passenger wiper motor to the driver side and
discovered a screw had backed out and jammed the wiper so it couldn't
park. Apparently even tho it was turned off it was still trying to
park. Glad the problem was found and so simple. Was afraid there was
going to be some serious wiring problems....a big thank you to these
gents for getting a wiper going for the return home trip!
The coach tour was fun and several other 33' bird owners said ours
couldn't be a 33 as we have 3 closets in the hall and a cabinet by
the sofa.....A tape measure ensued and verified it was 35' bumper to
bumper...the registration says 33' ?????
Have some photos posted in the photo gallery of the birds, a few more
to follow..
A big thank you to Jo Anne Slivinski for organizing this get
together, she did an outstanding job. (and has an amazing singing
voice as discovered at our around the camp fire time!!) MMM for the
BBQ oysters and potluck.A great bunch of folks, mom is looking
forward to the next outing.
