no hot water - Robert & Teri Rahn - 11-19-2005 16:08 hello, we havent written in in a long time. we left mt a couple of days ago to washington. we have been staying in our bus a couple of days with no problems. tonight we went to take showers and there is no hot water. actually no water flow when we put the sink on hot. from both sinks this happens. and from the shower there is no water flow at all on hot or cold. when the shower valve is on and the bathroom sink is turned on there is flow out of the tub spiggot as well as the sink. but not hot. i looked in at the water heater and there is no leak and it sounds like it is heating, a slight sound and the top feels warm. any help appreciated. robert rahn kalispell, mt 88 pt 40 wb no hot water - sfedeli3 - 11-19-2005 22:36 Hi Robert, First, make sure that the water heater switch under your bed (usually on the curb side) is set to "fill" instead of "drain". I had problems with calcium deposits in my shower regulator and sink faucet last year that only seemed to effect the hot water side. There was usually flow in the bathroom sink. I ended up disassembling the shower regulator and cleaned the small screens in the two sink faucets. Both were full of calcium from the water heater. This check valve prevents heat transfer from the water heater back to the cold water source, i.e., the fresh water tank. Internally is a small plastic part that deteriorates or gets misaligned thus preventing water flow. This valve will be located imediately prior to the tank on the cold water line feeding the heater. About 7 bucks for the valve. I got mine from bird but it seems to be a common part available at any plumbing supply. Actually one can just take the valve out, pull out the plastic check valve portion and put the who;e assembly back in--left mine for about six months before i went back in to do it right. This fixed my 86 PT that had some of the symtoms you describe. it is an easy fix. Jim Scoggins formerly 86 PT 40 Stafford, VA no hot water - Ralph L. Fullenwider - 11-20-2005 02:29 Another item that will cause this, is the 3 way valve with the air blow out line attached at the bottom of the cold water inlet inlet. This valve is famous for sticking. Take the water pressure off the Coach, remove 4 screws on the end cap, pull the valve spool with a pair of needle nose pliers toward you and replace the cap. It was small pieces of contamination (calcium) in the shower valve (Moen 3100). It would only feed hot water. The balancing spool (Moen part # 1423) is a very precise device with very close tolerances and I've cleaned it several times. Now I'm going to order a couple of new ones (1-800-BUY-MOEN). Learning about these big babies is a never ending process.I wonder if it would be worth the time to put a good filter just after the hot water heater? One new one and one simply cleaned and used plumbers grease..high temp and water proof..works great now. FWIW you may want to check with MOEN..I think they carry a lifetime warranty hence new parts covered under warranty! A filter on the hot water line?? Hmm I think the spigots are easier to get to than a filter would be..I would guess that an annual "flush" of the water tank would probably take care of most deposits..but with all the other stuff..where on the list is that!!
