Doghouse/Genset Insulation? - Scott Forman - 02-19-2006 13:03 Both my doghouse and me genset compartment need re-insulating. I have made a couple attempts so far, utilizing insulation purchased from JC Whitney and the spray-on adhesive that comes with it. So far, I have not had much luck getting the adhesive to hold. Those of you who have done a re-insulation, what did you use? Scott Forman 82 FC35RB Memphis Doghouse/Genset Insulation? - George Lowry - 02-19-2006 13:14 Scott, Probably the best adhesive for a high heat environment is 3M 8380. A bit expensive but it does hold. I have also used Weldwood vinyl top cement. Both are a contact cement and are designed to hold in high heat. I used the 3M glue George is speaking about and it worked pretty well for the side of the compartment. The top was a different story! Of course you must really clean the area WELL or nothing will stick..the previous glue, and grit and exhaust etc must be removed. I still found that the weight of the insulation hanging from the top and the vibration/heat allowed it to fall...I simply took self taping screws with a fender washer and "drilled" them into the top of the compartment. USE SHORT SCREWS!! you don't want to penetrate the floor etc above.Use aluminum tape to seal edges and well still holding great and I could not be happier. I used 1" thick, 2 lbs. per sq ft vinyle/foam composite for the generator and 2" thick, 2 lbs per sq ft composite insulation for the dog house. They recommend 3M Super 77 spray on adhesive insulation, sprayed in two coats at 90 degree angles to each other. They also recommend capped pins for the horizontal runs, however I chose not to use it because of the difficulty of penetrating the heavy vinyl center barrier. Mine is right where it was installed after a little over a year. The site has all of the recommended installation instructions for you to download if you are considering installing it. They also manufacture the under layment sound absorption material for underneath the carpets in the coach. Mine has it installed. http://www.soundown.com/ Tom Warner 1982 FC35 Vernon Center,NY At 08:14 PM 2/19/2006, you wrote: >Scott, > >Probably the best adhesive for a high heat environment is 3M 8380.
