Maybe Buy The Bird Maybe Not? - squirrelyerk - 02-19-2006 15:11 We are Airstream (1963 Overlander TT) owners involved in a partial restoration of said trailer. Not too expensive an endeavor since we are DIY'n it but a bigger job than we planned on.Thank goodness for the Airstream Forums! Which is why I seek info here. We just ran across a possible heckuva deal on a 1978 Wanderlodge 33'. The interior has not been babied, but is not terrible. A good cleaning and tear out the original green shag carpet is all she really needs in there.Original upholstery in great shape, original curtians can be cleaned. New Passenger seat. Windows and screens are in good shape with the exception of the pass side front window being cracked. The front heater has been removed, repaired, and set on top of the rear bed (nice new mattress) for reinstallation. As far as appliances, the PO said that he never tried them, but was told they worked...right, so we will assume they are mostly DOA to be safe. Been there, done that on the '63 Airstream! The CAT3208 has 18k on the odo (probably 118K...was overhauled 12k ago), starts right up and the bus drives beautifully (albeit a bit loud, but I suspect that's normal for the CAT). Tires are decent and body is excellent with no rust, dents, or missing parts.Onan gen is there...no idea if it works. It looks to be a pretty standard Wanderlodge in fair condition without any owner-modified upgrades. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure on what a coach of this vintage and condition should cost. I realize it's a bit difficult without knowing any more details. The roof has the overlapping sheets of corrugated-looking steel. Were they proned to leaks? I am thinking that plastic headliner in the bus would mask any potential leaky areas from being spotted on the inside. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! -Tracey & Oscar E Maybe Buy The Bird Maybe Not? - rrob@... - 02-19-2006 17:54 Contact me off line. Airstream is a tinfoil piece of crap. A good deal for someone we feel. We'll keep our eyes open for another. --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "squirrelyerk" <squirrelsaresoft@...> wrote: > > We are Airstream (1963 Overlander TT) owners involved in a partial > restoration of said trailer. I know several of the members including me from this list have gone and looked at it. I see on the website that there is a Sale pending on it. I really thought it was in very poor shape except the paint job is better than the One we have for sale. If any members are comming this way for the Lone Star Rally in Texas this weekend and you have to pass thru Houston I'd appreciate if you could stop by and see our 1979 Blue Bird thats for sale. I'd love to have some imput from the list members due to so many joining and looking for BB's. Our Bird needs a paint job but besides that its in Great Shape. Inside is all original, very clean and very well taken care of. In May we will have owned it for 4 years, we have never had any type of problems with it. Plus my hubby is a X-Diesel Mechanic so that helped on being able to service and keep everything running and in top order. . Hope to see you there. Mike Bulriss 1991 WB40 "Texas Minivan" (Almost typed "Stagecoach! by mistake!) But Larry will not be in town for the whole weekend so I can't drive over there without him. Thats why I was asking if any one was going through Houston. Whens the next Rally in Texas??? I'm thinking about taking our BB to PPL since the 83 is going for nearly 18,000. Ours looks newer than that one and its really 4 years newer than ours and I'm only wanting a few thousand more than it. I've gotten quite a few calls but not from anyone wanting to pay a fair price. Everyone wants me to damn near give it away, since I've seen so many now, I feel like its a great price and its running great, I'd have no problem going accross the USA. Hang in there. You will run across a knowledgeable buyer at some point. Ignore the bottom-feeders looking for a steal. I particularly liked the guy that called me on his cell while sitting in front of my Bird and asked "Hey, I was wondering how much you wanted for this Winnebago thing here with your phone number on it?!" That was a very short conversation! Note to potential buyers: The first question should not be "How much do you want for this thing"? It's a dead give-away that you have no idea what you are looking at or what it is worth. And maybe you are in the wrong market. I could write a buyer's tutorial right now on what not to do when attempting to negotiate a BB purchase. I do not know right now when the next Rally is after Montgomery - waiting on Tony Holtermann to post the calendar for the year that he has developed. Should be in about 60 days though. It will be posted on the forum. How far are you from Montgomery in case people want to stop over and look at the coach? You can contact me offline with contact info. We were too late to schedule it at another location. Shirley and I will be the hosts. R.E.
