Tying into speakers in front overhead - Bob Lawrence - 02-26-2006 05:19 Hi group, We have a new LCD 20" tv that I mounted on the dash in my 84 PT36. The speakers in the tv are 2" round..to small for my ears. I would like to use the built in speakers in the overhead consol. The tv has 2 audio inputs in the back. Was wondering if I could use the tv inputs, run wires to the speakers and make it work...don't want to blow either the tv's or consol speakers. Anybody done something like this? Fullenwider - 02-26-2006 05:31 Hi Bob: Hope all is well with you two, weather wise up in the frozen North Country Best bet is to get a switch box, either manual or remote and take everything through that, thus protecting all circuits involved. That most certainly will NOT WORK. You are talking about INPUT Jacks and you need to find some OUTPUT JACKS. Input jacks are for importing audio from a dvd or vhs player and then modulating that audio over the TV speakers. They will not have any output. Your TV may or may not have any audio output jacks, so consult your manual and see if you can find a reference for this. Additionally, even if you do have audio out, you may need an amplifier to drive your larger speakers to a desired volume. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions please ask. -James 78FC33SB LasVegas NV --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Bob Lawrence" > > Hi group, > > We have a new LCD 20" tv that I mounted on the dash in my 84 PT36. Been wanting to get to this update also. As far as hooking the TV to the stereo speakers... If you can determine if the stereo has "aux audio in" RCA jacks, then you can use the RCA output jacks from the TV to the stereo. The aux audio output RCA jacks on a TV are usually un-amplified, very low voltage/amperage signal to go to a Stereo system. You may find speaker connections on the back of the TV that use a basic insulation-removed wire connection. These would have to go directly to speakers. If you connect the stereo to the speakers and then simply add the wires from the TV, you will back feed the amp that supplies a signal from the stereo amp. Probably will cause a problem, so don't do that. You can add a 2 or 3 position switch to make sure that the speakers receive only one signal at a time. Found a GREAT web site for switches: http://www.tselectronic.com/switchrelay_index2.html?tse_Session=9bf50d90\ 03e971bcd3ef71c61c7afa59 <http://www.tselectronic.com/switchrelay_index2.html?tse_Session=9bf50d9\ 003e971bcd3ef71c61c7afa59> If you want to connect the Tv to the speakers and not go thru the stereo, just connect the Tv to the speakers, use this link: http://www.tselectronic.com/gc/switches/35_080.html <http://www.tselectronic.com/gc/switches/35_080.html> then use switch #35-146 it is DPDT ~ ON-ON By the way, This is the best selection of switches I have found on the I-Net. When constructing the outside entertainment system on my Bird, wanted to run the TV through the stereo cause the entertainment system stereo kicks butt. 1,500 watt sub amp and 200 watt mid/hi pass amp. 3 10" Inifinity Kappa Perfect 10.1D Subs, 2 Infinity Kappa series 6x9's. Some of these days, you too, will swing by my rig to tell me to "TURN IT DOWN!" ;~} Any questions on this, call me 217-971-0036. BB has the adapters. Since George now works for Bleakley, you may have to contact him to find out how to connect them. Bennie or Earl should know what you are talking about and be able to get you a part number. It works great. On our '03 Dutch Star, when we switched the stereo to "AUX 3", the TV sound would come out of the stereo speakers. I never had to take it apart to see how they wired it though.
