WHOOPS!! KRYLON ACCIDENTALLY SPRAYED ON COACH - Jack and Liz Pearce - 03-14-2006 12:09

Howdy, Y'all.

Jack accidentally got Kyrlon Fusion for Plastic spray paint on the Bird.
[X-(] [X-(] [X-(] I won't even go into HOW that happened. [X-(]
Removal instructions of this product as listed on the Krylon web site
call for laquer thinner. Of course, a caution is noted and mentioned as
the thinner might not only remove the Krylon but also all paints below
it. [X-(] Does anyone have an idea as to how to remove this stuff
without ruining the paint underneath? Part of the wheel well fender(?)
looks like it has white measles. [ Sad

I was going to suggest a polishing compound used very sparingly, but
it sounds like you are already getting a chemical reaction. If that's
true, you may be asking for help from a paint shop to sand and repaint
with base paint and top coat.

first question how big are the measles
If it were me iwould dab the the spots with thinners applied witha
q-tip with a rag at the ready top immediately wipe the thinners away
Iwould only dampen the qtip NOT sopping or dripping wet try and soften
the krylon only then gently try to pick it off using a toothpick do
not dig at it
Try it on area or spot or measle that is hopefully in a spot that is
not to noticeable down near the bottom of the wheel well or fender
You could also try wiping on with a damp rag and wiping off with a dry
clean rag but you will have to be quick to break the krylon without
melting the clear it can be done.
It should be removed before krylon cures completely
If unsure about all of this take to a paint shop
1. hang head in embarassement
2. ask the paint guy for help.
3.You may be surprised it may only cost you a case of beer

remember always use spray cans standing with back to coach in no wind
conditions or use neighbours coach for back splash

If it's just over spray, you can try "auto detailing clay bar".Works
great on tar, sap, and over spray.

I don't know what happen but I would try the Butal Alcohol thinner
before I would try the Lacquer thinner.

I don't know if it will work in your particular case but I have removed graffiti
spray paint on a chevy (was sprayed the night before) with DriWash n'Guard. It
is a waterless car wash and it truly has to be seen to be believed. All you do
is shake it, pump the bottle, spray it on, wipe it in a curcular motion and
then lightly buff it. It cleans polishes and protects in that simple
application! It is available from Independent distributors or directly from the
company in las vegas. call 1-800-820-6893 and ask for a 16 oz bottle of
Ultra-ion ( with a pump applicator) you will need pin#173077.
Keep in mind that the longer the paint is on the more difficult it is to
remove. But if Your vehicle had been cleaned with DriWash before the paint
overspray......hmmm.

Hi Liz (shame on painter Jack) LOL we've all goofed!

A few months back I reported on replacement of the
3M plastic front material designed to protect the
paint. In that endeavor I was stunned/shocked that
the rather harsh and "hot" product, Xylene, was
successful in removing the adhesive residue without
damaging the coach paint - provided one didn't grind
on it nor leave it on for an hour or so. With that
experience, I became brave enough to use Xylene to
remove a "nickle-sized" spray paint spot from a car
fender. For some unknown origin and time, fine-spray
(mist) paint on the coach, rubbing compound seemed to
work well.

I've not had occasion to use Dri-Wash in that application, but
could attest to the fact that had it been applied before hand, the
chore would have been much easier. I could send a sample to Jack but
he needs to get that stuff off now and not later. Longer it stays in
place, the harder it will be. Actually, Oxygone, another product
might do a better job in this case.

John, great info as usual. Being in the marine business we frequently
use Acetone, to remove overspray, tape residue etc. If the coach is
painted with imron (as mine is) then I do not think serious/permanent
damage to the finish would occur. After all MOST yachts, and many
boats are painted with either imron or awlgrip. I agree both
chemicals are somewhat harsh and caution should be used. Although if
some care is excersized either one should work. I am sure either
product can easily be purchased in any paint dept of the major home
improvement stores.
