Replace the stripes? - Scott Forman - 07-23-2006 09:17 My 82 FC wears its original brown color scheme. The painted areas are in excellent condition, but the two stripes that run down the beltline are faded and crcked, and they really drag down the overall appearance. I am assuming these are some sort of vinyl "tape" rather than paint. Has anyone ever tried replacing these without any other paint work? Thanks Scott Forman 82 FC35RB Memphis Replace the stripes? - Scott - 07-23-2006 10:42 Scott, Our coach is the classic brown, copper, cream color and we have gold striping that is reflective. I have never attempted to remove the original but we did match it when we put the name on the front. A decent auto graphics/pinstripe shop could give you ideas as well.I would imagine you could "carefully" take an exacto knife and gently cut alont the stripe so as not to pull any paint that may have looened over the years. I did some light scraping and sanding on the offending areas. Then I masked the areas off, (well, almost enough), and touched up the stripe area with good ole Krylon, from Ace. Didnt look too bad!! Wouldn't want to try a big area, like on a Bird however... Went to my local sign and decal shop. He cleaned the old stripes and put on new reflectable tape over the old ones. Looks like new.
