Alan, best wishes on your coach. Perhaps we can get together when I get back
to Weatherford in the winter.

New Bluebird Owner 1987 FC35 - Alan - 08-15-2006 10:22

Last week I joined the ranks of BlueBird owners. I bought a 1987
FC35. It has not been used in a while, so there is a punch list of
items to get it going (and a huge learning curve for me while I
figure out where everything is). ...But after changing all fluids
and belts, it made a flawless 750 mile trip from Springfield Il to
Dallas.

I would like to offer a special thanks to Jay Darst, who took two
(long) days out of his week to help me get acquainted with the coach
and get it operational. The previous owner is now elderly and was
not able to be of much assistance. I rebuild a 1977 GMC Eleganza
three years ago, so I have a good basic understanding, but the BB
takes it to a new level, and I would not have been able to pull it
off without Jay's help!

I also appreciate help from several of you who have answered posts.
I am sure in the next few months I will have some more questions
while I am working things out. Thanks again.

Welcome to the family. Your trip just got you hooked. BB's are not only
beautiful they are tough.

Hello Alan, congratulations on you new toy. Jeff Miller
believes you may have a rare build, both air and hyd.
jack leveling. He's a walking, talking source of information
on Wanderlodges for sure so he would know.

Many happy Birding hours to you.

Alan,
Congratulations on your new Bird.
You found one like I did it had been roosting in a barn for years. Elderly
widowed gentleman who had great memories just hated to part with it. You will
recieve some very good advise from these fellows. I am amased at what some of
them do. Welcome to the Forum.

Alan,

Congratulations, I was the "other party" interested in that fine BB located near
Springfield. You have purchased a fine specimen, and I have been looking very
seriously for several months.I wish you all the best with your new Bird and I
will continue my search.

I backed off because my better half, believe it or not, is dead set on a PT
because of our past experiences with heat (Ineffective A/C) problems in Florida.
Our lifestyle, with me still working and not quite ready for retirement, dictate
that we keep our trips short and mostly in the Florida/Georgia area.

Keep us posted.

Alan,
Congrats on the purchase of your new coach. We know you will enjoy it.
If you need any help, you have several Bird people in the Dallas/Ft
Worth area that can help.
Kindest Regards,

Ernie,

Thanks. It is a good time to be in Montana!! This is the hottest summer
I've seen in Dallas in about 7 years. It's supposed to be 106 today and
tomorrow. (And of course that's if you're standing under a shade tree in
the middle of a field.)

I hope to make a Rally soon and meet some people.

Thanks,
Alan

Don:
I recently purchased the coach from R. Dupree in Florida, and if you think
that the FC has problems with air conditioning, I say "think again". The 3 air
conditioners in the coach will freeze you out, and that was when the coach was
sitting in the sun, 96 degrees (in the shade). It was not quite working that
way when I got there, but Randy and I cleaned all the filters, replaced some and
wow, what a difference. AND, when we go down the road, we still have the A/C
from the engine as well.
Maintenance,is one of the main key ingredients to any equipment, I believe the
FC is just as good a machine as the PT in that department.

Interesting objection, since the FC35 and the larger PT40 each have
the same 3 A/Cs until '87 when the 3rd A/C became optional on the
FC35.
