Broken Speedometer Cable - Todd Jones - 08-22-2006 10:04

On my 1978 FC 33' SB I Have found a broken speedo cable.
It it the one going from the speedometer to the box and is a little
over 6' long. From the box to the rear of the transmission the cable
is still attached and looks fine, (though I will probably chech both
ends).

Where are some of the best places to check for replacement part?

The outer sleeve for the cable looks good.
On one end, the cable is missing the pinched on adapter (to the
cable) with the solid square extrusion piece missing.
It does not look like it can be fixed wihout replacing the whole
cable assembly...... is this correct?

Thanks

>Most speedo shops can make you up a new cable. Just take the old one
to them if the outside housing is in good shape, you only need to
replace the cable.

Broken Speedometer Cable - Jeff Miller - 08-22-2006 14:52

There are shops where you can have the cable made, just take in the
old one and they can duplicate it.

I have a local auto-electric shop where they make mine, I've also had
them made by a heavy-truck repair shop as they are used for
speedometers as well as tachometers on trucks and other diesel
equipment (pumps, generators, welders, etc.).
