Entry door jammed....HELP! - Scott Forman - 08-28-2006 12:20
Went to get the Bird tonight, and the latch on the entry door seems
jammed. When I try to pull it, the handle doesn't come out like
normal. It's almost like the little handle lock is locked, but I have
never used that lock, only the deadbolt. Of course, all windows are
shut up tight, so I can't crawl in.
Suggestions?

Hope you have a key for the "automotive" door lock... The button may
have been pressed (without your realizing it).
Sometimes, you need to push the door shut (real hard) to unlock if
it's partially opened. Hopefully, that is the problem and not the
automotive door lock.
Some folks have put various products around the plunger to keep it
from locking --- best approach I heard was a short piece of clear
plastic tubing.
Personally, I'm a lock paranoid so I lock both the dead bolt and the
automotive lock.

Scott,
I too only use the dead bolt, but have always kept the key for the other
lock on the ring for just this reason.
I'm unsure if your 82 is the same, but on my 91 WL, the sliding window
on the door can be disassembled. There are screws on the window frame,
you can take off one side (the side facing to the rear) and slide out
the glass, then reach in. The screws are located near the top and
bottom corners and under the weather stripping filling the channel of
the frame. The weather stripping can be moved up, and then down a bit
to reach the screws.
Not the easiest thing to do, but at least you'll get access to the
inside door handle and the automotive door lock. Again assuming your
windows are set up like mine.

you can dissamble a window then reassmlbe it after entry itis only 2
screws and no damage to the windowif you absolutely have to get in
that way if you want hrlp give me a call I can talk you throug it

Had the same problem but the door latch was NOT locked. The Bargman
entry latch often has a problem with a pin that retains a spring. If
the pin is worn out when you pull on the latch nothing happens. I was
at a rest area and could not get out of my unit. Kept trying and it
finally opened. I removed the latch and installed a machine screw in
place of the pin. Bargman makes a kit for the door lock or you can buy
a new assembly for about $50.00. If you get in to your unit and it
still does not open a few phillips screws will give you access to the
innards.

Personally, I think it locks backwards, Pull out=lock,
push in =unlock, less chance of accidentally locking
when you step out to kick the tires.
If you have lock-out coverage, might be better to call
them.

Aren't those locks common on most rvs? If so- a key could be bought from an
rv dealer as they have master keys.
