HELP! stuck in Wisc - need wiring diagram for 88-89 DDEC I - KP Marsh - 09-23-2006 03:13 HELP!! we are stuck in Eau Claire Wisc. We were on our way over to Antigo Wisc yesterday (Friday) to have the new slide outs installed in ToWanda's bays when our "Check Engine" light came on and she cut to half power. All gauges were reading just fine when the light came on. She restarted for us and we were able to get her over to River States Truck & Trailer. She ran fine, all gauges reading normal, no power problems, just the Check Engine Light being on was the only indication of a "problem." The diagnostic read out was telling River States that the problem was the oil temperature sensor. They replaced the sensor but the Check Engine light remains on. It appears to be a problem with wiring going to the sensor. River States is trying to track down a wiring diagram from Detroit for us. Does anyone out there have a wiring diagram for 88-89 DDEC I???? If so, please fax to (715) 874-4701 to the attention of Randy. I'm sure you're getting the idea. First, I will qualify my knowledge of the 8v92 which is squat, if a BB, it would rattle in tin bucket. The warning system can be problematic indicating a fault that is in fact within it's own circuitry. It, in your case the DDEC I, be know to shut the engine down when it senses damage could be done running. A good friend of mine has an 88 WBPT40 DDEC I and was worried with similar symptoms many times. His vital engine signs were good, oil pressure, engine temps, etc,. With a codes tester a problem would be shown but not the actual problem. (a generic codes tester) The Detroit people had stored the DDEC I test equipment *upstairs* as this was a system that was superceded by the DDEC II and not used much. As a side note will ad this. I have a car with a similar problem. When I take it to the shop, it's working, never fails to do this. Mechanics tell me there are something like 57 sensors that could cause the warning light, and, unless I wanted them to systematically go through replacing all the sensors, I would have to live with it till a complete failure occurred. I found the fix, a small piece of electrical tape over the light on the dash. Still goes on an off today. Bob Janes, Greenville, SC The fix required *dragging* that equipment down to do an evaluation of the problem. When they did, the cause was readily found, a loose ground. Tighten a screw with no problem since. --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, KP Marsh wrote: > > HELP!! we are stuck in Eau Claire Wisc. Humor me and take the sight glass out of the puke tank, windex it, then reinstall and over fill the puke tank. ( puke tank= the radiator overflow just above the engine bay. I will fax this tip to the number in your post also. Wisconsin, what a place to get stuck, good luck. I have a 88WBWLXXV DDEC1 I have had many codes with the engine. The unit "remembers" old codes even if problem has been resolved. You need to kill the power in the coach with the kill switch in the back of the Coach. this kill the power to the "memory" for the error codes in the DDEC1. If in truth you have solved the problem then you will get only the 2 5 code meaning everthig is OK. I was having a simmilar problem I founfd that it was the cooling sensor on the Drivers side in the engine bay by the coolant res. Loose connection! reseated, reset DDEC1 25 code on down the road. Someone suggested that you update to DDEC4 I have gotten this suggestion also..MY DD dealer has little idea of what to do with a DDEC1, they don't have a reader, they seem to have gotten a little better after a call to DD main office, but the guy that works on it was born in 1984 the engine 1s 1986.
