89sp fuses-- can you use todays new car fuses? - ED GARDELS - 09-24-2006 15:18 Today, I had to replace my first fuse. The "can" like fuses, are they special, or can you use the newer type auto fuses. It was a 15 amp fuse to the lower flouresent lamps. I swaped it with another like amp fuse. A good thing to keep in place. I'd replace the original with a new one of the same design/rating as it seems the old one is bad. Or, you may have electrical issues that need to be resolved so the fuse does not trip. Yes, you can use the auto fuses that disconnect and do no reconnect.
