That is the small accumulator tank for the spitter hoses from the engine.
Mine had lost the plug- went to the hardware store and bought a pvc one and
fixed that. Ernie-83PT40 in Colo

My tank did not have threads. i used some Teflon tape - a lot of wraps to
make it snug. Since my engine is chronically messy- most DD are- mine's worse, i
can't comment on yours. You make have had a lot of condensation, which
worked its' way out.

We are the new owners of a 1983PT 35 BB with a 1982 DD 6V92T. There is
a round tank under the engine with a 1" open hole designed in the
center of the tank. There are are hoses from the engine area that goes
to the tank. I've review the spec, but does not state the purpose of
the tank. Does anyone know the purpose of the tank?

Is it normal for water and oil to come out of the tank sometime if the
plug is missing. The hole in the bottom of the tank does not have
treads.

Thanks for your advise,I assume the tank is OK to stop up and drain as
needed. Bill-83 PT 35 in FL.
