FC power steering died...help? - Scott Forman - 04-21-2007 12:17

OK...this was really strange.

While driving today, my FC power steering gave up the ghost. No
strange noises, no belching of fluid, nothing...just no more power
assist. The belt is still there, the resevoir is filled, no busted
hoses, nothing. Can the pump just die like that? Am I missing
something?

Thank God for that huge steering wheel

Sorry, I don't have a lot of ideas. You could check to see if the fluid is
circulating by either
looking thru the dipstick hole or loosening the large bolt on the center of the
reservoir
while the engine is running. Be warned that if it is circulating, fluid will
shoot out of the
central bolt hole when it is removed.
Perhaps a hose has collapsed internally, stopping the flow of fluid.

Wonder if you can feel the pressure hose from the pump for a soft
section while running or look at the pullie key on the pump????? or a
valve problem in the steering independent of the pump.
