Generator Service - Sidney Breese - 05-26-2007 15:07 I mentioned sometime before that my generator will not start. It happened after I started it with a load on (ac). I have checked several things, but believe I need to find service for it. It is a Kohler 12.5 with a Perkins engine. I live in NW Missouri, but can travel it needed. Anybody have a suggestion on where to go? We have been on several trips and being without a generator is a real pain (hard to boondock). Thanks. If that is the case, you can simply remove one or both starter mount bolts and reposition it?????????? To start a diesel you need compression and fuel. A slow turn on a weak starter will not develop compression. If it turns over slow, check the bats and or remove the starter and have it bench tested and/or rebuilt if needed. Should be about 125. to have it rebuilt. Trying to start on weak batteries will mess up the starter bearings and bushings then cause the starter to require a more than normal amp draw to spin (thats how they bench test). Not sure but I think a good starter and charged batteries would be able to start the genset fully loaded???
