Dometic Cooling update - Scott Forman - 09-09-2007 05:21 Hello all, To follow up the lengthy previous string on my Dometic refir not cooling well, I thought I'd post the results of the advice I received. My refir was only cooling to the mid 50's, and it you opened the door for any length of time at all, it couldn't compensate and got even hotter. The freeer worked fine. I discovered that my refir fan had been removed from the compartment behind the unit. I purchased a 12v fan at Radio Shack about 4.5" in diameter and secured it with some zip ties. I found the wiring from the refir fan switch and wired the fan to it, bypassing the thermostat, so now it is either on or off with the switch. It may not be the cleanest installation in the world, but it was effective. Temps in my refir dropped to the mid 40's on setting 3, still not perfect, but a huge improvement. I then purchased a battery-powered refir circulating fan for the interior on eBay, and that seems to have lowered the temps to about 40. I am surprised that the fan can make such a difference, but glad that I am not looking at a new refir right now. Scott Forman 86 PT38 Memphis |
