2008 Daytona 500 Speedweeks - erniecarpet@... - 09-12-2007 09:50 To be in the infield- with ALL the action, would be worth the money. In my opinion- once in a lifetime chance. Bring earplugs. We researched the speedway and see that there are 211 sites situated on Lake Llyod within the infield. My question is.... Has anyone done this or is planning on 2008? I would like to learn how it is and is it worth the $3K or should we look for a campground outside and get good seats in the grandstand? Thanks! You get power and water and you can see part of the backstretch. Make sure your satellite TV works. You can go fishing and watch the speedboat and the folks skiing. The venue around the pits and other areas are really nice. There also is a certain amount of marketing hype associated with the Daytona 500. It is not worth $3,000 for me to do it again and it is not worth $1,200 for the 400 race on the 4th of July either although the fireworks are second to none. Plus it is burning hot. The best value in NASCAR is in the infield at Talladega and I have been to California Motor Speedway, Texas, Atlanta and Daytona. I did sky boxes at Fontana and Texas and that is overrated also. Except for the noise, and the hubbub, the TV works great. My wife and I, along with 20 or so good friends, have been going to the 500 for 10 years. We did stay in the infield once. It was exprnsive and had some undesirable limits on it at that time. If a person wanted to visit you they had to have a ticket for that area--which were, at that time, $275 or so. Consequently we could not have our friends over so it was a little lonesome. That visitor limit was not made clear when we signed up for the tickets. Aparently they had it that way to keep out the "rif-raf". We have been very satisfied staying across the street, behind Hooters restaurant at Finishline Campground, buying good tickets, and walking to and from the track. It is not a "rowdy" campground. You would like it there. Look for us if you decide to stay there. Bob Criss 90SP36 |Havin Fun" Pittsburgh |
