rear end lube - Ron Hazlett - 05-10-2005 12:27 I am getting the oil changed in the rear end of my 1987fc. Does anybody have any recomandations on what weight, and what brand of oil to use? Ron Hazlett 1987fc ohio rear end lube - rrob@... - 05-10-2005 16:38 What ever you put in make sure it is compatible. I changed mine the other day and wanted to convert to synthetic if possible. Mine has Hypoid and the stuff doesn't mix so to change over to synthetic is a real pain with lots of work to get all the Hypoid out, everything cleaned up before synthetic is put in. At least this is what I was told so I decided to go with the original oil. Original Message: ----------------- From: Ron Hazlett ron.hazlett@... I just got my bird back from the shop. I had a wheel seal replaced and while it was there I had the oil changed in the rear end. So one side got cleaned up. Synthetic gear lube is compatible with almost all non-syn lube. In fact it's highly recomended in rig's like ours and almost all pickup truck manufacturer's suggest that if your pulling or doing hard work with you truck that you switch to synthetic gear lube. Nothing special is required just drain and add the new. It's kind of like putting the synthetic transmission fluid in, by the time it's been changed twice it's all synthetic. In my 93pt I use amsoil 80W-140wt. cost is $6.05/qt. I change it every two years. Bob 93pt Il. |
