fogged windows - bubblerboy64 - 10-07-2007 09:22

I don't know if its worth the trouble or expense but I thought I
would ask for opinions. I have a number (well a lot) of windows
which have become fogged due to age (mostly around the lower edges).
Do automotive glass places handle this type of thing? This is one of
those don't need to do but it would be nice to do things on the list.
Might do the worst first.

You have to replace the glass
But if you do be careful some of the colors or tints that Bluebird
used are no longer produced and are extremely hard to locate. if you
are only mmatching one window on a side you would see the difference
in tints if you do the whole side it would look ok

I replaced all my windows this past spring with thermopane Penninsula
Windows. I went to their factory in Vancouver Wa and they measured to
existing windows and then built the replacements. They are a big
improvement over the old ones. Total cost for 10 windows (did not do
the back ones) was approx $3300 US. They take a bit of work to install.

No I don't think they are tinted. Pete, I am assuming that in your
case the frames and all were replaced? You would have to to get the
thicker thermopane glass I am assuming? That would make for a
excellent job but I don't want to get into it that deeply. I am
looking for who does this type of work. Would any auto glass
business handle this type of work or is it a specialty area?

John

My windows were getting a little corroded along the bottom of the
sliders. the "cat fur" was in very bad shape, and on a recent trip
south ( from BC to Mexico) in Dec, we noticed that a lot of cold was
leaking in around the old windows. The new windows did include all new
custom made frames. The bus is much quieter and warmer/cooler with the
new windows.

If you are going to replace the glass you should make sure that your
frames and seals are worth the expense. I would recommend consideration
be given to complete new windows.

fogged windows - DONALD BROWN - 10-09-2007 00:33

We replaced both the front driver's and co-pilots windows including the frames
because of fogging. they were dual pane windows originally manufactured by
Motion Windows a Division of Peninsula Glass .http://www.motionwindows.com. Both
window frames were slightly smaller than the originals and required great effort
to keep from exposing unpainted body sections. There was lots of extra room on
the inside flange but would recommend having the outside flange made a 1/4 of a
inch bigger to eliminate the need to use touch up paint or fill in with colored
silicone.
