About to buy 77FC35, anything special I should be checking? - Dorn Hetzel - 11-13-2007 06:54

I am about to buy a 77FC35. Any suggestions on last minute things to check
before I take the plunge? Smile

Dorn, Your post struck my funny bone. E-mail me off list and I will
tell you what I can. Not that I know 10% of what some of the others
know but I've been thru this recently so I might be able to give you
just a little information.

I would have a safety check done on this rig first.

Items I would check for would be:

Tire Dates? Old tires are expensive to replace and so you can use
this as a leverage in your bid for this unit. Tires run anywhere from
around 250 dollars to maybe 450 dollars depending on which
manufactured tire you want to buy.

Brakes and amount of brake shoe material on each drum.

Check air cans that operate the brakes

Check out batteries and see if they are fairly new

See if present owner has any service records to show you.

Look for any water damage especially back under the bed where the
water tank and hot water heater is located at.

If you can test drive this Wanderlodge than check out the steering to
make sure its not to sloppy.

Mainly I would find a service shop that deals with Blue Bird buses
and pay to have them check this rig out. It is a bus first and a
motor home second and so they should be able to give you and idea of
the mechanical and electrical main components that might need to be
repaired.

Dorn, You didn't say where you were from, but get some phone numbers
of others who have a similar coach, that always helps. Also you might
find someone close by who can assist you with a walk through on the
coach. Good luck with the coach.

I'm in Hogansville, GA. (midway between LaGrange and Newnan)

The coach is in Hartselle, AL. (south of Huntsville)

I've driven it 25 miles or so and it seemed to handle fine. The propane
fired heaters don't work, and it seems parts aren't available, but I've
factored the cost of replacements into what I'm spending on it.

It's reported to have 142k-ish miles with a rebuild of some sort done post
100k ( I don't have exact data on that )

The engine driven AC has a clog somewhere in the lines, that may prove to be
annoying, I don't know.
