electrical question? - dspithaler@... - 11-13-2007 09:00 Vic You can ruin an alternator by running it with a dead bank of batteries. That what an Alternator shop told me. The battery charger would not ruin it. My charger is on all the time. Don 89 SP 36' Butler, PA Can you damage the alternator by running the battery charger while the engine is running? I have a new alternator that has failed after its first trip. I'm just trying to figure out what happened. Thanks for any comment. Vic Engstrom 81FC Camano Island WA electrical question? - hsaddock - 11-13-2007 14:12 I have done this with both the old battery boilers as well as the latest technology multi stage chargers while plugged into shore power and working on the engine and a few time running down the highway (with the ACs on) with the generator running - no problem with the alternator. However, I have blown out alternators in my boat by momentary disconnecting them while the engine was running (switching from one battery bank to another) Harry Saddock 83FC35 South Windsor, CT --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "v.engstrom" > > Can you damage the alternator by running the battery charger while the > engine is running?
