Toyoto Highlander - Hubert - 12-13-2007 13:58 I have a 4 wheel drive Toyoto Highlander which I would like to tow. I have seen some kits online that can be installed to disengage the transmission. Has any had any experience with the Highlander? Any suggestions on how I should proceed....? Toyoto Highlander - Eric Johnson - 12-14-2007 01:41 I just finished installing a Remco driveshaft disconnect in a Toyota Tacoma pickup. We've used it on a couple of trips so far and it has worked well so far. The replacement driveshaft and shifter mechanism ran almost $900. I had a Toyota shop install the new driveshaft and I did the shifter. Not too difficult. I'm not familiar with the Highlander. If the 4X4 transfer case has a neutral position (like a Jeep Wrangler) you can probably tow it without a disconnect. If there is no neutral position for the transfer case, you'll want to install a Remco disconnect and put the transfer case in two wheel drive position with the transmission in "Park" for towing. If you decide you want to go with Remco, go to their website and see if they offer a kit for your make and model. You'll want to talk with them on the phone about the specifics of your vehicle before you order.
