doorbell - Ernest Ekberg - 05-16-2005 14:09

My barrel chair finally wiped out the doorbell controls that were
mounted on the sidewall. Since this is all a circuit board, is there a
simple fix for this? I don't care if it plays 50 tunes- just so that it
rings. Ernie-83PT40 in Texas-

Thanks, John. Is the receiver battery operated or did you use the exiting
house wiring? Ernie

Ernie,

My door bell was also shot on my "Bird and I just replaced it with an
inexpensive wireless unit that I purchased at Lowes.

I used a piece of aluminum to cover the old door bell switch hole and
then mounted the new switch to it. the door bell unit itself can be
mounted anywhere inside of the 'Bird, so that it is out of the way of
that wildly swinging chair.

doorbell - John Stiles - 05-17-2005 00:45

Ernie,

When I replaced my non-functioning doorbell I went to Lowes and
bought a battery powered doorbell (2 C-type) to install. It
utilizes the original wiring and doorbell button (although I
replaced mine with a newer nicer one) and of course doesn't serinade
you with Disney tunes but at least we know someone is outside. Now
if I had my wishes one of those doorbells like on the Adams
family.....

Hope this helps,

John

Ernie,

Both the door bell switch and the receiver are battery operated. The
battery for the outside switch comes with the kit, but you have to
supply the two C cell batteries for the receiver.

Since I live in my "Bird full time and have it parked next to my shop
when I'm here at home, I have an identical kit in my shop, so that if
the door bell for either the 'Bird, or the shop is rung, it sounds
inside the 'Bird and in my office in the shop.

The unit works within about 100 feet of the outside switch and the
receivers can also be set for different frequencies, so that they
will not sound each other, if that is what you want.

I just taped up the door switch wires and tucked them up inside the
hole that the original switch covered.
