While on our trip to Southern Mexico both of my windshields got hit by
rocks. This is a normal occurence on the bad roads!! My Mexican
Insurance will cover the replacement but getting the windshields will
be a chore. My BB parts book shows the BB #'s as 1222694 aqnd 1222686.
These are supposed to fit from 86 to 88. My glass is all old and the
#'s are very faded. I do see 2686 and the 2694 on the glass. What I
need is the complete National Auto Glass #'s. Any help appreciated.

When you replace the windshields DO NOT cut the gasket unless you you
have a new one of the proper size to replace it
Some of the gaskets are getting hard to find

Hey Bruce,

Recently replaced the passenger side at Fort Valley, BB # 1222686.
Stamped on the new glass is: Guardian, Safety Float Shaded
Laminated,
# AS-1 GG-M85 Dot 22 686 1 5U U 45 N
this could be a safety glass requirement code number followed by the
part #

On the old Driver side window is the same stamp,
Guardian Safety Float shaded laminated and the only number 2694
Try to save the gasket.

Guardian does manufacture the glass and will install it for a
reasonable price. I had it relaced a year or so ago. Less than $ 200
if I remember correctly.

Do the windshield removal and install yourself. Takes about a minute to remove the windshield...about 10 minutes to install the replacement. Use plenty of lube (dish soap or silicone spray), no steel tools unless it's the windshield install tool, use paint sticks to push the seal out from the inside...two people work better than one for the R&R.

Curt:

Thanks for the tip. My insrance will be paying for this ( I hope). I
undertake a lot of mechanical jobs but would never attempt a
windshield. Best left for the pros.

I replaced my passenger windshield last Oct. I got the glass from a BB
schoolbus dealer
for
about $270. I talked to the factory and they said if they ship to me direct,
there will be a
shipping charge. However, going through the dealer, there was no charge for
shipping
and my price was the same as a direct purchase.

The dealer charged me $170 for the install. I don't like to do glass so I let
the dealer do
the install.

A big advantage to split windshields is a lower repair cost. Some of the
motorhomes with
a one piece windshield are very expensive for glass and labor.

My gaskets were in great shape and the dealer recommended reusing them instead
of
replacing them.
