Would it be practical to remove this air If you live in Canada- yes, if you live in the south, no.

Cooper - 03-23-2008 14:25 I have a 1984 FC35SB it has 3 roof air conditioners, the center one is inoperative, my question is: Would it be practical to remove this air conditioner and install a Fantastic Fan. Roof air - Jack & Donna Smith - 03-23-2008 14:51 We have just 2 roof A/Cs in out FC31, and find them adaquite. Yes, you could certianly replace the center A/C with a Fantastic Fan. But the cost of the Fantastic fan is about 25% of a new A/C. Our FC31 has 2 Fantastic Fans, one near the front A/C, and one over the kitchen. Sometimes we use them instead of the A/Cs when pratical. It would help if you specufied where you are living..In very hot areas you would need all 3 A/Cs.. The now make a 15,000btu unit that will replace a 13,500 unit and use the same amount of energy. (so they say) BTW/you aren't THE D.B.Cooper living incognito, are you??? (sorry, I couldnt resist)... Jack Smith 1973FC31 SoCal --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Dale B. Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Roof air - Bruce Morris - 03-23-2008 16:20 The center roof air on my 83 FC is a 15,000 btu unit. If you replace it with a fantastic vent you will probably leave an impression of the interior shroud on the ceiling and you may have to replace the plastic strips if they are cut to allow the shroud to fit.

However, the Fantastic Fan will require 12vdc power, and you may only have 120vac where the AC is located. (That will require some hassle to pull a 12 vdc line through the ceiling and wall.) Roof air - bubblerboy64 - 03-24-2008 06:32 Nothing is ever simple is it? I vote for replacing the air conditioner with another. Not all that much difference in cost when you get down to it especially if you have to match the ceiling (and you certainly will) I would guess it would be at least 50% of the cost of the air conditioner. Nothing wrong with the fantastic fans. I replaced the old fans in my FC with them and they are really nice but you can never have too much air in an RV in my opinion. I replaced one of the air conditioners in the "Big Napper" and that is pretty easy. Pretty much like replacing a window unit in a house (once you have the thing up on the roof of the Bus) I had a fellow lift it up with a tractor and front end loader. I had the old one loose and we set the new one up still in the box and took the old one out and off at the same time. The new ones are lighter then the old ones. Just like everything else seems stuff is cheapened up. Makes it easy to move a new one around however.
