3208 T'Stats - What's The Drill - freewill2008 - 05-21-2005 05:03 Changing some hoses and the thermostats on this 225T this morning. First, am I looking in the right place: the stat housing is just below the air conditioning compressor, correct? The housing is not like the book, of course! Has a rad hose fitting piggy-backed on it, apparently. Two of the housing bolts look like studs that run out through the hose fitting. The nuts on those studs (?) loosen and then the studs spin without turning out. I'm probably missing something here. Anyone? All that stuff is bolted to an assessory plate on our 300 hp turbo. We could easily reach the bolt/nuts from inside the doghouse. There is also some confusion on a one or two thermostat system. Our 88 has only one thermostat. Just get dirty and crawl into the doghouse with a bright light. When I saw Bill's reply earlier I remembered reading a while back about the bolt heads behind the stat housing. Anyway, it was a good day's preventive maintenance. New stats, upper rad hoses, oil cooler hoses, power steering return hoses. Found much better routing for the PS hoses - no more loops and pinches. Also fabricated a little vent for the PS fluid resevoir. Worked outdoors and buttoned up the front just as the rain started. 100 mile test drive tomorrow to drop the rig off for the Telma install.
