ON THE ROAD TO BUENA VISTA, CO - Jack and Liz Pearce - 05-13-2008 14:02

Howdy, Y"all.

We left the Lone Star Corral in D'hanis, TX , attended the Lone Star Birds Rally in Boerne, and drove up to Fort Worth.

We stayed at Cow Town RV park out in Aledo. Had a good visit from our

son, Matt and grandson, Cole. Grandpa and Cole did a little fishing.

On May 5 we left Cow Town to go to the COE campground, Holiday Park at

Lake Benbrook, Benbrook, TX. We had a nice, long site with 50 amp service

and water hookup, but no sewer at the site. The price was nice, too, $10

with my Golden Age discount card.

We prolonged our stay so Grandma(me) could attend Cole's school band's

concert. This band won first place in a competition in Denton, TX on May

9. The concert was pretty good and the competition-winning number was

played, Saber Dance. Lots of applause for this one and the percussion

section was given special recognition. Cole is in the percussion section

of the band. Hugs and Atta Boys were delivered and we drove back to the

COE.

This morning, (5/13/08), we left Holiday Park, met up with IH 20 and

headed west to access US 281, taking us to US 287. Went through Wichita

Falls, lots of construction on US 287 there, detours, etc. We stopped at

the highway rest area west of WF for a while. Next stop was Old Towne

Cotton Gin RV Park, west of Quanah. Interesting park and historical cotton gin, easy access from US

287, clean and well manicured. Packed dirt site, full hookups, long

pull-through and nice people. 940-674-2477.Owner was an RVer. With our

Good Sam discount, we paid $23.40. They honor other discount cards, too,

I think. I give this park an 8 out of 10. We would definitely stay here, again.

Jack and I shared a hamburger, french fried and a LARGE sweet tea from

Red's in Quanah. Pretty good.

Tomorrow we drive to Amarillo to get diesel at the Flying J, then from

there, on to Dumas.

Oreo still suffers from car sickness, poor thing. I am going to try to secure her crate to the dinette bench. I notice that when I sit there, the ride is smoother.

Regards,
Liz
