Thanks, Ernie [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] DDEC - Ernest Ekberg - 05-23-2005 08:29 We looked at a coach that had the DDEC 1 over the weekend. Isn't this number 1 prone to have some problems? Ernie-83PT40 in Texas, curious at the moment DDEC - erniecarpet@... - 05-23-2005 09:04 Thanks, Jeff, appreciate your information. Ernie [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] DDEC - Jeff Miller - 05-23-2005 12:06 The DDEC 1 is NOT a troublemaker by itself, but, ... In a 15-year-old coach, electrical problems do crop up. If those electrical problems include bad connections to the DDEC, or bad electrical grounds on the engine where starting current can back-feed through sensitive electronics, the DDEC can become a problem and so can the ATEC. The "problem" with the DDEC1 is that parts are difficult to find and a complete upgrade of the system is expensive. I've heard some pretty tall repair bills from a toasted DDEC1 module. If you decide to buy a DDEC1 coach ('88 and at least one '89) it is a very good investment to go through the engine/transmisson.control wiring and grounds. - Jeff Miller http://www.wanderlodge.net http://www.millercoachworks.com --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Ernest Ekberg" > We looked at a coach that had the DDEC 1 over the weekend. New ground straps for the engine, transmission, and batteries is IMO a good idea. The transmission control is grounded at the dash, transmission is grounded at the transmission. A long distance in the PT40 and prone to ground loops and noise. It is IMO a good idea to run a dedicated ground either from the transmission ground point, or to ensure that the copper ground buss is excruiatingly well connected at the rear and use a dedicated ground wire from the copper ground buss. - Jeff Miller http://www.wanderlodge.net http://www.millercoachworks.com --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, erniecarpet@a... wrote: > In a message dated 5/23/2005 7:07:44 PM Central Standard Time, > jamiller@i... writes: > > > > > > If you decide to buy a DDEC1 coach ('88 and at least one '89) it is a > > very good investment to go through the engine/transmisson.control > > wiring and grounds > > Jeff- are you suggesting to remove the wiring and ground connections and > clean them?
