THE PERILS OF MAXTON.....ALREADY!! - John - 05-26-2005 20:26

The turnout so far has been great with eight 'Birds and one OB coach
arriving at Maxton, for the Memorial day races and rally here at the
track in Maxton, NC. We were greeted by some of the US Army Golden
Nights Parachute Diving Team, that were just ending their practice
jumping session here at the other end of the track.

We all got settled in and setup, with the exception of our race car
driver Luke Scanlin, who injured himself, by slicing open a finger
while helping Randy to setup the lighting system on the trailer. We
knew from past experiance, that we needed to try real hard to keep
any sharp objects away from him, so that he wouldn't be running
around with any thing sharp in his hands, but he managed to do a
good job of slicing and dicing anyway, by the time I had gone to bed
late last night Carol Dupree was still with Luke at the hospital
emergency room while Luke was awaiting treatment. I'm sorry but this
all happened while Cliff Vaughn and I were going to meet Scott
Bishop to guide him to the track, so I didn't get any gory pictures,
to post.

So now the question is will the Dupree Fiat Streamliner make any
runs this weekend, that remains to be seen, as it appears that Luke
may not be able to drive the car and Randy can't even get his feet
inside the car, let alone drive it, I will keep you informed.

We did manage to consume large quantities of excellent bar-b-que
that Scott Williams, had brought with him from Pennsylvania, as we
all gathered around to enjoy good eats, drinks and conversation
before calling it a day.

Later on today we will be doing some trimming of the tree branches
and bushes that line the entrance road to the track, so that they
will not scratch our coaches in the future, there were already other
racers here when we got here last night, that had been here all day
cutting the grass and cleaning up the dirt and debris that had
acumulatede, since last months race, this is purely a voluntary
thing on the part of the ECTA drivers and crews.
