Tow Hitch - Jon - 05-29-2005 15:53 Can anyone give me what a safe angle for a car tow hitch would be. By this I mean the tow bar in relationship to the tow ball. Four inches or less keeps the tow bar level with the ground or slightly angled up towards the coach from the car. The tow bar should never be angled “up” towards the car from the coach. Right now its sitting at about 3 3/4" lower than the hitch on the motor home. I set up the whole rig and that's what I came out with and when its done it should be dead level. (the hitch could seperate from the ball more easily if at an angle and given stress). From various readings on tow sites (such as blue ox), a ball mount tow bar must be level at the initial part of the tow bar connected onto the ball. I may not be explaining this well, but checking blue ox ball mount hitch documentation, and receiver hitch documentation will better explain it.
