What is this?! Part of my compressed air system on 1983 35FC - compmanben - 02-03-2009 03:06

Hi Folks,

I have recently replaced by Bendix AR-2 air dryer. While I was
working under the coach, I couldn't help but notice a part with an oil
leak. I'd like to do some work on it, but I don't know what it is!

It looks like it is part of my compressed air system. The lines go
out of sight and I can't easily trace them.

I posted the pictures to a new "What is it?" album.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Nate:

That is the pump motor and reservoir for the HWH jacks. Most often the wet
look is from filling while the jacks are extended, then of course when
they retract, oil goes everywhere. You will find the fill spout under the
second step in the entry way. Lift up the step, remove the cover plate and
you will see the blue top screwed into the tank opening.

Oh and it is not oil, it is dextron 3 or what ever the latest is. You use
the same thing in your power steering reservoir under the dog house.

Safe travels,

That is the HWH jack motor/pump/tank (left to right across the unit).

notice the vent on the blue cap. if the vent clogs you get leaks in
the return and cavitation and starving on the extending. Not easy to
clog because the 3 grand worth to psi will suck the screen into the
reservoir then screw the pump on extend or blow the screen out and
suck dust at the next extend.

Nate, I believe that is the hydraulic fluid tank for your leveling
system. The fill cap is reached by an opening under the 2nd
(middle)step inside your coach.

Yep, that's what it is.
It should only be filled when jacks are retracted otherwise overflows.
That might be the leak you notice.

Thanks to everyone who responded!

I am going to degrease it and monitor any further leaks.
