Got Stephen Birtles on the phone yesterday and he convinced me the view wasn't worth the climb on this little project. I'll mount the new gauge somewhere to the side of the existing panel. Let me express my appreciation to everyone that jumped in on this subject. Your desire to keep me from ruining a perfectly good electroluminescent panel is impressive. It felt a little like being talked out of jumping out a 10 story window! That's what makes this forum such a valuable resource for BB owners. I'm very glad I took the time to post the message before getting any deeper into the job. FYI. I took a closer look and, yes, I do have a steel backing on the panel. Eric, In this case it is "OK" to jump, just not through the electroluminescent lines on the dash! You can drill between them as BB did for all of the gauges and switches but one cut through the EL lines and the panel is toast. Rich D.
