Spot/Flood Lights - Scott - 06-09-2005 23:21

I am trying to trouble shoot the spot/flood lights on our 86FCRB. They
are Jabsco model 61026. The port light comes on and will switch from
flood/spot the starboard light bulb is cracked(on order from grainger
40.00 ouch) But both have quit moving in either direction vert or
horiz. I have pulled the overhead panel down and separated (I think)
the switches from the wiring harness from the light. Hooked up 12v
directly to the wires to make the dc motor drive and ... nothing. The
folks at Jabsco have been very helpful and say the motors are very
durable and they doubt the motors have gone bad. Just mention
the "turkey" incident and he will immediately be your friend..lol

Does anyone know how long the wiring harness from the light is from
Jabsco to the BB wiring harness..want to eliminate any additional
connectors.
What about the routing of the harnesses??
Diagrams say small fuse is in the upper front load center found that
its ok ..or appears to be. Checking this before dis-assembly of the
light itself..
Anyone have some other ideas as to a solution.

rob robinson (where are you rob?) took john finns light down and took it
apart,greasing and cleaning everything in there,i think he made it all work
again.it was just dirty..maybe john remembers..randydupree93wb

Spot/Flood Lights - Jeff Miller - 06-10-2005 01:19

Hi Scott.

You will need to open the overhead panel (remove panel) where the
spotlight control switches are, see if you have power to the center
wire on the left/right switch and to the joystick control If so, stop
looking for fuses, there is power. Next see if the speed rheostat is
passing power. If all have power then it COULD be the motors. I've
had spotlights that were frozen from non-use, after manipulating by
hand they would work on their own, another possibility.

Any of the switches can go bad, selector/speed/joystick, ... and the
wiring from there to the spotlights is all in the overhead and should
be tracable directly to the spotlights as it goes through the roof
right under the spotlight base.

Run a few checks with a 12v light while moving the joystick around
and that'll narrow it down.

Scott,

I just watched Rob do his thing on the light, but it works now, the
only thing that he couldn't fix was the deteriorated rubber boot that
seals off the bottom.

Hi Scott,

I rebuilt the ones on my '90. They, too, were frozen in place. In
addition to cleaning and lubricating I replaced the rubber boots
(don't know if they are still available) and also replaced the relay
that switches power through the joystick to either set of motors.
Worked great after above was done. Total parts were only a few
dollars, relay was from Radio Shack, bulbs at local NAPA store.

Thanks Rich, George, Bill, etal.. I think my problem is a compound
one. The joy stick when testing it..doesn't have power to one set of
pins when pushed to that side..Additionally I believe the relay has
gone south.. no power to that set of wires on the board for the
relay. Jay do you remember the radio shack part #?? I know it is a
shot in the dark but electronics co. wants $40.00 for the relay plus
shipping. I have a wiring diagram (for dual lights) if anyone is
interested in getting one. Just email me and I will be happy to scan
what I have and send it to you ... this electric stuff is hard when
you have TWO GREMLINS TO CHASE...WHEW
