radiator leak - Bill Jowers - 02-12-2010 12:45
We have a minor radiator box leak at the top and can’t
determine how to access the box to make the repairs, we are new to the BB
family and enjoying reading the emails and learning from them. We could not
find any details in the services manuals how to access. We have a 1983 PT35
with Detroit 6V92 silver. with hydraulic fan to cool radiator. It is taking us a
little time to feel comfortable with the large steering wheel. Very high
quality MH.
Help
Thanks

Look in the pics section 101-120. You will see a few pics of my rad pulled out
for checking and replacing of fan bearing.
Take off the rad door.
You will have to take out the bottom plate, rivited on.
Take all bolts off rad, disconnect hoses and have 2 people help to take it
out.....heavy.
Get it tested, rodded, etc. while it is out.
May want to change out fan bearing at same time. Tough to get out without rad
removal.

radiator leak - Bill Jowers - 02-18-2010 13:31
Detroit Diesel tells me they
could not access the radiator reservoir box close to the fill cap
by removing the grill at the fan and thought the rear fiberglass panel would
have to be removed the access.
Sound strange the rear end of the
BB bus would require to be removed to access the radiator reservoir box. I’m
confident BB would have made it easier to access than what DD is telling me, and
will look for other option when we pick up our coach .
DD tells me that they went
through the engine and tune up what they could to eliminate the black smoke when
starting off from a full stop, but that was to be expected with the older 92
DD 2 stroke engines.
