How do you remove a Sharp microwave/convection oven? - Eric - 02-26-2010 15:53

Looks like it's time to replace my heavily used Sharp over the stove
microwave/convection oven. I have never pulled one of these out of the anything
before. I don't know how it's held in place and I'd hate to take a crow bar to
it. I see the small channel that is in the lower rear that has two fasteners
that secure the bottom rear of the microwave.

Do I probably have to remove the narrow cabinet above the microwave to get
access to the front fasteners? I'd hate to start pulling cabinets apart if all
I have to do is press some sort of magic button somewhere. I doubt if this
matters but its a Sharp R-1830 microwave.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Well, I found two screws that go through the cabinet base above the microwave.
Looks like these are the fasteners that hold the front of the unit up. Tomorrow
I'll get the wrecking ball and try to get those fasteners out.

Eric,
I've got an older Wanderlodge and don't have this type microwave but have installed a lot of under cabinet microwaves and all I have seen have a bracket across the back at the bottom and 2 or sometimes 3 screws through the bottom of the cabinet into the top of the microwave. Also the cord normally goes up into the cabinet and plugs in so you will want to look for that too.

Eric: The rear of the Sharp is supported on a bracket screwed to the rear
wall. Support the Micro-wave in front until the screws from the top are
removed, then lift the unit up to get it off the bracket. Just make sure you
have some help. And remove the chord. I guess you know access to the screws is
made by removing the panel above the micro-wave.

Well the two screws above the microwave are "sucker screws", probably properly
called safety screws. The two screws above the microwave only will be loaded if
the bracket in the back fails.

So to get the microwave out (on my bus):
-remove the cabinet above the microwave.
-remove the liner on the sides of cabinet above the mw.
-remove the two looong safety screws above the mw.
-DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE COVER IN THE FRONT AT THE TOP. You will break it and
it doesn't help anything except to see one of the long screws.
-unplug the mw. (behind the liner, next to one of the long screws.)
-put a couple of cases of water or soda on top of the stove to catch the front
of the mw when you release it.
-remove the two knurled screws at the bottom rear of the mw.
-holding the front up, take a screwdriver and slide it under the tab (on both
sides) that is secured by the knurled screws at the rear of the mw. Move both
tabs down about 1/2". BINGO: mw is free.
-lift the rear of the mw off the channel in the bottom rear.

I took my microwave apart and found my particular problem was just a 15 amp ABC
Littlefuse that had blown.

Unless your going to toss your mw out, remove the front upper grill and clean
the dirt out of the area and clean/replace the carbon filter. I choose to put
the upper grill back on with one screw through the grill so I can remove the
grill in the future without pulling the mw.

After reviewing different mw's I certainly would have replaced it with a Sharp,
even though other mw's are possibly quieter.

The fuse is deep in the bowels of the microwave/convection, adjacent to the
circuit board on my Sharp R-1830.

Can you pull the touch pad? If I could have removed the touch pad I likely
could have got at the fuse.

I just figured out how to pull the whole mw. How do you pull just the touch
pad???
