Stinky Carpet<sigh> - Elizabeth - 04-26-2010 03:32

Howdy.
Here is an update on our water heater leak/wet carpet/padding/bathroom flood.
The carpeting on my side of the bedbox is dry BUT IT STINKS!! Any ideas as to how to get rid of that odor?

Water heater needs to be replaced.

We went to San Antonio Friday and were gone for about 3-4 hours. When I went into the coach, I could hear water running. Yes, it was running, onto the bathroom floor!!!! The d*&&^%$n water valve in the Microphor toilet didn't turn off. Consequently the black water tank filled with water through the overflow on the toilet. When that was full, the water overflowed the bowl and then onto the floor. Luckily the bathroom rugs sopped up a lot of that water, which was CLEAN!!! The water also went into the bedroom and soaked the carpeting on Jack's side of the bed. We spent the weekend blotting up the water, pulled up the carpet and ran fans to try and dry things. I think that our Bird is mad at us or something. We have had to replace major items in the last 4 months. Geeeeze. $$$$$.

Oh well, thanks for letting me vent.

Liz- sounds like you have some mold growing. It won't stop growing and if it is
black mold that could be a health hazard, also.
My advice- trash the carpet and pad.

I am curious. Did you flush and then leave the coach or did it just start running on it's own ? Once our washing machine didn't shut off on the rinse cycle, the gray filled up, the shower filled up and we had a mess. Now we always turn the washer off before leaving.

Jack & Liz: That's really scary. Someone much wiser and more savy than I posted
sometime back, having experienced the same problem, advised to not use "city
water" when parked. Since reading that post I try to keep my water tank at 1/2
and use my pumps - manual on/off only. I keep my grey and black tanks empty by
dumping frequently and replenish my fresh water as needed.

Just a question. Did you flush and then it stuck open without you knowing it or did it just start all by itself ?
We had the washer stick on rinse while we were gone and it filled the gray tank, the shower and then ran all over the place. Water was actuality running out the seams on the outside.

Last year, I went to South lake Tahoe to put flloring in an XXV that had their fill valve housing break. Water was doing just as you mentioned, Richard.

Yup. Whoever used the toilet last didn't wait to hear the "thup" that
the water valve makes when it shuts off.

We are having the same exact issue with the toilet over flowing. We are finally
going to order a new part for it. The little plugy thing (ours is white
surrounded by a black plastic case) doesn't want to pup back down all the time.
We orginally thought it was some mineral build up after the first flood. (not
nearly as bad as yours) perhaps all the rugs on the marble floor prevented the
water continuing to flow that far. We caught is fast. But the second time, we
figured we need a entirely new gadget there. We will begin our search of that
part tomorrow.
