Hi Y'all,
I'm working all out on my SP-36 getting ready for our last coast to coast trip
(I think).
The coach AC is weak and needs charging. Did the 1990 SP use R-12 refridgerant?
and has anyone used the new Freeze-12 replacement. It is supposed to be
compatable with R-12 but I guess the remaining R-12 should first be purged from
the system. I sure would appreciate any suggestions.

It would be to your advantage to change it to R134 and be done with it.
Check your compressor and it will say R12 or R134
As I recall all you need to change is your filter drier and a couple fittings.
And purge it of course.

Not so fast....the hoses/lines made for R12 aren't necessarily compatible with
R134a. I've heard a lot of complaints about conversions not cooling as well,
or, not working at all after a while because the freon leaks out, unless of
course, you convert everything and spend a lot of $$$.

FWIW...Our Bronco was converted to R134 several years ago. Removed the oil. Added the correct oil. Replaced the dryer. Vacuumed the system. Added the R134. Still blowing cold air.

I rebuilt the front ac on my 77fc35 to new refrigerant. Replaced drier and most hoses. Working fine so far.

From the FWIW category while R-12 is getting rare it is still available. If you
do a search of your local Craiglist.com you might find some. (I just searched
my local Craiglist and found ads for 7 cans. Price was $20-$40 each) I would
recommend you work with an authorized shop to ensure the system is adequately
serviced and repaired. Most of the drop in replacements are propane or butane
based and will contaminate the R-12 servicing equipment. I do not recommend
them.
This advice is worth what you paid for it.......
