Solenoid - DonS - 07-05-2010 14:20

Hi All.
The other day I was in the battery compartment & I felt one of the solenoids &
it was so hot you couldn't touch it. I never felt it being that hot before. Is
that normal? I shut the 12Volt system off in side & it cooled off.

Depending on your year those 100 amp solenoids supply the 12 volt power to the rig when the master is on. Unfortunately it is their job to get hot. The fact that it supplies 12 volts to the rig is an afterthought. Those big solenoids draw between 1 and 2 amps all by them selves.

Make sure it is not the generator tie relay. If that one is stuck on, it will trash your gen battery
