Gen help needed! - Markus Meyer - 05-27-2011 06:30

About to leave for the weekend in an hour. 4 hour ride ahead in 90 or so temps. Ran generator for about 4 hours yesterday no problem. Started it today before noon, left to walk the dog at 1, still running. Got back at 2, not running. Gas tank is full, oil in the gen is at proper level, coolant tank half full. The solenoid pulls out or releases when it shuts off, if you hold it, it keeps running. But even when you hold it to keep it running, no power whatsoever inside.

Ideas?

To go along with that, check the rear bearing in the housing, then the slip
rings,(use a mirror and flashlight) and the diode and fuse for the
quadrature windings (55 and 65) on your schematic. Then check the diodes in
the control box (3 of them) check the wiring on the AC relay (large one in
the control box) and the contacts for burning. Un plug the oil and water
sensor for the safety shut down to check if one or both sensors have gone out.

some regulators use stab on connections that work loose. remove them all and crimp them, reinsert them several times to clean them and do not use chemicals unless necessary
