Frig. - Eliminate 12V DC Heating Function
Our Bird frig. is the 3-way Dometic RM3801. It may be the original unit.
I'd like to disconnect the 12V DC heating (cooling) function, so it becomes a 2-way elec. 120V or gas unit. Can this be accomplished? Has anyone done this? I read about the replacement Dinosaur Board, that a wire can be cut to eliminate the 12V DC heating function. Curt Sprenger 1987 PT38, Anaheim Hills, Calif. |

My experience is the people at Dometic are very
helpful via telephone and will have suggestions and guidance, and even help to find "out of stock" and upgrade boards. Have handy, both your refrigerator serial number, and the cooling unit serial number before you call, however. It's apparently the way they locate appropriate schematics. Obviously don't know about your unit; however, ours, and 2 I've looked at since my discovery, indicate Bluebird wired the 12V directly from the battery bank to the rear power supply board (accessible via the outside panel) through an in-line fuse holder, then stuffed/pushed it back into a cabinet hole. It is easily overlooked because the fuse holder is wrapped/covered with electrical tape and looks more like it covers a "wire splice." Frig. - Eliminate 12V DC Heating Function
Hi Curt:
If you install a Dynasaur P-711 board, look at the power left corner. There is a selectable switch there, failing that, J-1 is the control from the board to the 12 vdc heating element. You can simply clip the "bar" on J-1 and do away with the 12 vdc heating part. Frig. - Eliminate 12V DC Heating Function
Curt,
I put a new dometic frig. in 1998 and cut that wire out. It has been working fine without it.
