Personal safety without guns
I have learned several defense tips from other forums and wish to
pass them on. When a late night caller knocks at the door don't extend the steps and or keep the step well covered. If you are surprised by a knock, but feel it is necessary to exit, first put on all running lights and four way flashers. As you exit the coach shine a flash light in their eyes to afford you the chance to see things clearer then they do. Take the panic button for the toad with you. Mace is good to have but you can use a fire extinguisher. I look for one even when standing in line at a convince store. Many cars have shock movement sensors that sound off the alarm when they are bumped. These cars are parked all over the place and make great alarm devices. I installed one of these alarms on my moms car and demonstrated the shock alarm to her. Coming out of a late night Mass my mom was startled by someone following swiftly behind. She hurried to reach the safety behind the door of the car but could not get her keys to open the door in the confusion of the moment. She remembered the shock alarm and decided to set it off. Violently shaking and kicking the car, her fear turned to anger at me for installing a cheap product that did not sound the alarm. The anger then turned to embarrassment when the swiftly approaching person asked her why she was kicking his car. Her reply: its my sons fault. I guess my last point is it is never your fault but always your option to stand up and redirect the situation. Gregory O'Connor 94ptRomolandCA still compounding out the scratches on Fr. Murphys car |
